This is a demanding full-year course for experienced, highly motivated, and dedicated photography students looking to develop a 2-D photographic portfolio and earn college credit.  Students in this class will submit an Advanced Placement 2-D Art and Design Portfolio consisting of a number of quality photographic works. The AP exam consists of two sections. The Selected Works section requires students to demonstrate skillful synthesis of materials, processes, and ideas. The Sustained Investigation section requires students to conduct a sustained investigation based on questions, through practice, experimentation, and revision. Both sections of the portfolios require students to articulate information about their work.

“Animation is a demanding mistress but offers the intriguing possibility of making visible the internal life of dreams and the imagination.” —Ruth Lingford

In this course, students will learn to successfully integrate a variety of art media with animation while creating inventive and experimental solutions. Students will be introduced to both digital and analogue techniques in the creation of artwork. The course focuses on creating work using a variety of animation techniques, including stop motion, drawn (digital and on paper), and experimental methods. Students will be introduced to the Adobe CC software, including Photoshop, Animate, After Effects, and Premiere.

This course serves as a one-semester introduction to the area of graphic design. Through hands-on experience, students learn the basic skills used in the preparation and production of simplified printed items. Concentrating on professional communication projects ranging from concept development through print, students develop and strengthen the skills that lead to conceptual design solutions.  The focus is on the thought process behind good design and on problem solving in a "real world" context with emphasis on solutions that are appropriate to the client and the audience. Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop are used as primary tools in completing a variety of design challenges.
